Our consultation weekend was a great success. Many participated, so thank you! Here you will find the consultation report (CLICK HERE) presented to the congregation by Rev. Dr. Aaron M. Bouwens, Director of Vital Congregations. There are three town hall meetings scheduled for discussion on the report. You do not need to attend all of them, but please try to attend one.
Town Hall Meetings:
Wednesday, November 9 at 7:00pm
Sunday, November 13 at 12:15pm
Saturday, November 19 at 10:00am
A Church Conference is scheduled for Thursday, December 1 at 6:30 pm to vote on the consultation report. Please note that only professing members may vote in a church conference.
New Members Class
We have many newer and long-term participants at Bergen UMC who have not become members yet. We are grateful for the presence of everyone that is a part of our church and in most cases you can participate fully in the life of the church regardless of membership. The exception to this is voting at Church and Charge Conferences as well as work on some committees.
Beyond that, why is membership at a local church important in our lives? At the heart of the issue, I believe church membership is a statement about the community you believe God has planted you in for this season of your life. You won’t find a difference in care by the church or our pastors depending on whether or not you have made vows, we come alongside of each other in times of joy and need regardless. Yet living in covenant promise is something we see as taken seriously in scripture and local church membership provides a way to make such vows to God and others.
If you are not a member, I invite you to our Membership Class on Sunday November 6, 3:30-5:00. This is meant to be a time of learning and fellowship. Attendance will not require you join, that choice will be yours, but we are planning on receiving new members as part of our Commitment Sunday celebration on November 20th. Please reach out to me if you have further questions or are interested but not able to attend on the 6th.
