To provide a safe positive place for the teens of Bergen to grow as members of our community and to be a pathway to the Christian faith through the local church.
What is the Underground?
The Underground is an after school program held in the basement of the Bergen United Methodist Church. We began 10 years ago to provide a safe place for teens to hang out after school. The church’s youth pastor and several community volunteers lead the Underground. We provide all activities free of charge, including special events; such as, holiday parties, cookouts, and ice cream parties. Come join the fun!
What Do You Actually Do There?
We provide two youth rooms in which youth can choose from many activities. Activities include: video games, homework help, crafts, fooseball, four square, ping pong, board games, among other things.
At 4:00pm each day we provide a snack for all participants.
Hours of Operation:
3:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Underground follows the Byron-Bergen school calendar.
How Do I Get There?
Since we are located right in the village of Bergen, anyone within walking distance may simply walk to the Underground.
The Underground has recently started a bus run from the school to the Bergen UMC at the first dismissal of the Jr/Sr High School. In order to ride this bus, you must return a signed registration to the Underground Director, Pastor Shari Schuck. Forms are available at the church and in the school’s main office. Forms can be returned at our church office or mailed to our church.
